District reports mixed fall interim results; announces IXL rollout and targeted math interventions

District staff presented fall interim assessment results to the Willis ISD board on Dec. 11, saying the data show stronger results in reading/language arts (RLA) and areas of concern in math for select grades.
The presenter summarized performance targets used by the district: an overall goal of 90% passing, with 60% in the "meets" category and 30% in the "masters" category, and less than 10% in "did not meet." Staff said many elementary campuses already meet or exceed 30% in masters for RLA, while math shows a wider spread — notably higher red (did not meet) in some middle-school math grades.
To address gaps, the district will roll out IXL — an adaptive online program that personalizes learning and helps diagnose skill gaps — and will target math interventions at campuses with lower performance. Staff noted that the fall interim is an early snapshot (given about nine weeks of school when tests were administered) and that district leaders will compare interim results to MAP mid-year results to confirm trends.
Why it matters: Staff framed the interims as one of multiple data points used to guide instruction, intervention and resource allocation. The board discussed supports for lower-performing students, training for teachers and expanded access to the IXL tool for campuses that do not yet have it.
