District recommends partial Aldridge roof replacement; officials warn of wider 10‑year capital shortfall

Administration briefed the Business Operations & Finance Committee and the full board on a recommended partial roof replacement at Aldridge Middle School for summer 2025.

Bob Chady said sections labelled A, B, C, H, I, J, K and L are at or near the end of life; sections J–L date from 1990–1992 and show ponding and sealant deterioration. Chady recommended awarding labor to GBR Roofing and procuring materials from Roofer’s Mart, noting the district can "straddle" costs across FY25 and FY26 to reduce immediate budget impact. He gave a total estimated cost for the work of $1,080,609 and said contractors had agreed to honor last year’s bid pricing for the labor and materials, an arrangement the business office called “generous.”

Facilities staff showed photographs of roof deterioration and adjoining site issues at Aldridge, and also presented a Findorff/EUA districtwide capital‑needs slide that identified roughly $125 million in prioritized capital needs over 10 years if the district were to address all categories. Chady and others pointed to unexpected weather‑related leaks as examples of near‑term, unbudgeted expenses that underscore the risk of delaying critical work.

Superintendent Dr. Garrison and staff emphasized the recommendation was informational on Dec. 3; administration said it would return to the committee in January with a formal recommendation and bid award proposal. Board members said timing and vendor bid‑hold offers were key considerations; one board member asked about potential grants or rebates for solar installations if the district pursued roof work.

No formal action was taken that night. The district will present a formal bid award and funding plan at a future committee meeting.
