The Sweetwater Board of Commissioners on a unanimous vote approved a purchase order totaling $1,079,192 for a new fire truck, with payment set to be made upon delivery.
City staff told commissioners the city can select among several payment plans but recommended a payable‑on‑delivery arrangement so the city would not pay until the truck is received. Staff added the payable‑on‑delivery option incurred the most favorable interest while the vehicle is under construction.
Commissioners asked whether a payment plan had been chosen. Staff member Sam said the city could still choose among plans but that the board was leaning toward payable on delivery: “We wouldn't pay anything until we actually received the truck.” The board received that clarification before moving and voting on the purchase.
The purchase will be executed through the Sorrell purchasing network under the city's purchasing policy, staff said. The motion to approve the purchase order carried on a roll call vote with all commissioners present voting aye.
The board did not adopt a financing ordinance at the meeting; staff indicated the payable‑on‑delivery arrangement was the selected option and that detailed financing or bonding terms will be handled in procurement paperwork prior to delivery.
