Douglas County commissioners approved a $2,000,000 amendment to an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) beneficiary agreement with Laveres (Laveiers/Lavere's) Water and Sanitation District to fund the first shovel-ready phase of a waterline-replacement project aimed at addressing radium in the district's groundwater.
Dan Avery, special projects manager, told the board the county has invested in radium-treatment infrastructure for the district and that the newly approved funds will support replacement of approximately 2,750 feet of distribution mains that serve the Triangle Park neighborhood and adjacent homes along Laveiers Boulevard. District president Matt Collett said construction on a radium-treatment plant is underway and that the project is shovel-ready.
Commissioners emphasized the county's commitment to ensuring safe drinking water for all residents regardless of community size and said staff will track expenditures closely; if the full $2,000,000 is not required, the board said it expects to discuss redirection of unused funds.
The board approved the amendment by voice vote; no remote or in-room opposition was recorded on the item.
