Douglas County approves $543,813 in developmental-disabilities mill-levy competitive grants

The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners approved the 2024 developmental-disabilities (DD) mill-levy competitive grant awards, allocating $543,813 across programs serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Jennifer D'Ambrosio, community programs coordinator, told the board 38 applications were filed by 28 organizations requesting a total of $1,274,346. The advisory council used a weighted evaluation tool aligned with commissioner priorities and recommended funding 29 applications within a competitive budget of $543,813.
Staff grouped awards into six categories. Employment programs recommended for funding included Dirk Coffee Bar, The Hive and Lone Tree Arts Center. Housing grants recommended included TellTales Ranch, Wellspring Housing and CenterPoint. Respite and adult-day services recommendations included South Suburban Parks and Recreation, The Hive and The Main Mission. Transportation awards included High Point, Tall Tales and Treeline Pass. Socialization and personal-development awards included Adam's Camp, Easterseals, Fill the Beat, Jewish Family Service of Colorado, Lone Tree Arts Center, Overture and Special Olympics. Therapeutic services recommended for funding included Affinity Ranch, Therapies for Hope, Town of Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch Community Association and the Town of Parker.
D'Ambrosio said award letters were ready for distribution to organizations in attendance and thanked the advisory council for its work. Commissioners praised the county and residents for supporting the DD mill levy since its adoption in 2001, which designated a property tax to benefit citizens with IDD and their families.
No board member objections were recorded during the approval; the board moved to distribute award letters and proceed with checks to recipients in attendance.
