Developers and Texas Orthopedics seek expedited permit review so clinic can open in Leander

At the public-comment period developers and medical providers urged the city to accelerate approval of public improvements so several medical tenants can open a new mixed-use project near the new hospital site on 183A.

Ron Evans, the developer of Point 183, said his team signed early letters of intent and that several health providers ' Texas Orthopedics, a veterinary group and a dental practice ' are lined up as tenants. Evans said building permits and site development permits are nearly completed but the public improvement construction permit (PICP) remains to be accepted by council and that a delayed council meeting schedule could push tenant moves back several weeks, affecting patient care.

Tanner Sloan, chief operating officer for Texas Orthopedics, told council the practice had vacated its previous facility south of Leander three months earlier and treats about 3,000 patients a month across its service area. Sloan said a weeks-long delay in opening the new clinic could meaningfully interrupt infusion treatments and other scheduled care. Dr. Parker Ablett, a physician and on the practice's physician committee, said staff and patients were inconvenienced and urged council's assistance.

Council and staff responded by offering to have the assistant city manager meet with the development team immediately to review outstanding items and next steps. No action or vote on permits took place during the meeting; the council accepted the developers' request to meet with staff for expedited review.

The three speakers who addressed the council during this period were identified on the record as Ron Evans (developer), Tanner Sloan (Texas Orthopedics COO) and Parker Ablett (physician). A separate public commenter noted personal reliance on care from the incoming clinicians and asked that services be available soon.

No formal council motion or vote was recorded on the PICP at this meeting.
