York City SD reports modest enrollment bump, pathways progress and March hearing date in pending litigation

Superintendent Dr. Berry delivered the board report and gave an enrollment and pathways update at the Jan. 13 meeting. She said district enrollment stood at 6,379, an increase of one student from the previous report. The district has 309 seniors and 96 seniors who have completed all pathway requirements at the time of the report; senior-failure breakdowns by courses will be added to future pathway reports.
Dr. Berry said graduation is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the fairgrounds pending final contract approval; the contract was received after the deadline for inclusion in the meeting packet and will be presented the following month.
On litigation, Dr. Berry and Attorney Peterson attended a status conference before Judge Matthew Mangus; the hearing has been rescheduled to March 11, 2025, with a discovery deadline on Feb. 18 and other prehearing exchange deadlines scheduled in early March. Dr. Berry said parties will exchange witness lists and exhibits in advance of the March 11 hearing.
Dr. Berry also discussed ESSA designations and accountability classifications. She said the high school currently holds a Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) designation and several schools qualify for Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) listings, naming Jackson, Hennepin, Smith, McKinley, Ferguson and Davis. She described ATSI (additional targeted support) and TSI as designations tied to subgroup performance; district staff said more specific designation information will be forthcoming from the state.
Ending: Dr. Berry said the district will add senior-failure breakdowns to subsequent pathway reports and provide updated information about ESSA designations as the state releases details.
