Committee approves multiple parking changes, including no‑parking stretches on South Pine and South 16th

The Public Safety and Health Committee on Jan. 9 approved a substitute ordinance (file 241315) making targeted parking changes on several Milwaukee streets to improve safety and visibility. Scott Rhinebacher of the Department of Public Works presented the locations and rationale and said the changes were coordinated with local alders.

Rhinebacher, the department representative, said the proposal extends the no‑parking zone on the west side of South Pine Avenue north of Layton, creates limited parking on the east side of Shea Avenue north of National Avenue, establishes no parking anytime on the south side of Stack Drive east of 60th Street, and creates a no‑parking zone on the east side of South 16th Street from Cleveland south to a point beyond it to improve sight lines. "All these changes were coordinated with the local alders, and happy to answer any questions you may have," he said.

Alderman Berghaus moved passage of the ordinance; the chair recorded no objections and ordered it adopted. The file was considered under a substitute ordinance presented by DPW staff; no recorded roll‑call vote was provided in the committee transcript.

The changes are narrowly targeted to the listed block segments. DPW told the committee these adjustments are intended to reduce conflict points and improve visibility for motorists and pedestrians. The department said it notified local alders during drafting and will handle signage and enforcement through normal public‑works channels.
