City staff presented two administrative proposals to the Colleyville City Council on Jan. 7: a standardized update to building-permit fee schedules and adoption of the most recent model building codes.
Ben Bridal summarized the proposed fee changes: where building permits used a range of $0.80 to $1.00 per square foot, the city proposes to move to a uniform $1.00 per square foot for new residential builds, remodels and additions; smaller ancillary permits (fence, water-heater replacement, roof permits and similar items) would be standardized at $100. Bridal said the adjustment aligns Colleyville’s fees roughly in the middle of comparable cities.
Bridal also presented a proposal to adopt the 2024 editions of the International Code Council family of building codes and the 2023 edition of the National Electric Code, and to add the 2024 Property Maintenance Code (which Colleyville historically excluded). Staff said code adoption will follow a three-year cycle and that building-inspection staff were prepared for the change.
Both items were presented as first readings; council did not take final votes on Jan. 7. Bridal said staff will present comparative tables and graphics at second reading to show fee benchmarks and to support the code-adoption recommendation.
