At its Nov. 5 meeting the Crown Point City Board of Public Works and Safety approved a bundle of routine and discrete items by voice vote. Key approved items included:
- Approval of the Oct. 15 meeting minutes (unanimous). - Permission for the American Legion Auxiliary (Unit 20) to distribute poppies and collect donations on Veterans Day at downtown intersections (approved). - Dedication of right-of-way for two parcels associated with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gary (approved). - Advertising and event contracts: Lamar Advertising six-week holiday advertising renewal (small fee increase), a full-page 2026 Golf Now ad ($2,995), renewal of the Healthy Excellence contract (minor rate increase), and Kids'New Year's Eve activities at Bulldog Park (approved). - Deferment of Saruman Pond maintenance agreement to a future meeting pending comparable pricing (deferred). - Equipment and vehicle purchases: Towmaster trailer ($15,754), 2025 Ford F-450 truck ($126,917), 2026 Peterson knuckle-boom loader ($188,712 with $17,841.68 trade-in), and a 2020 John Deere loader (net ~$97,000 after two trade-ins) (all approved). - Release of the Sawgrass Phase 1 maintenance bond ($191,560.39) after inspection (approved). - The board set its next meeting for Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 11 a.m. and adjourned.
