Board loosens T‑hangar lease rules to allow extended maintenance periods for aircraft

The county approved an amendment to its standard T‑hangar lease July 1 to permit tenants to leave aircraft undergoing maintenance in hangars for longer periods, subject to airport manager approval.
Airport Manager Dustin Caudill said lengthy overhauls, including engine rebuilds, can take a year or more. The amended lease provides the airport manager discretion to grant an initial maintenance period and up to two additional six‑month extensions, reflecting anticipated construction of 20 additional T‑hangars that will expand capacity. County Attorney Tony Triplett said language for the change was developed with experienced Airport Board members.
Commissioners approved the amendment unanimously; Chair Shirley Randleman and Commissioner Hardin Kennedy noted the changes will help returning tenants and new tenants perform extended maintenance while additional hangar capacity comes online.
