RVTD briefs council on Ashland service, bike programs and funding pressures

Representatives from Rogue Valley Transportation District (RVTD) briefed the Ashland City Council on May 6 about transit service in Ashland, community bicycle programs and funding pressures.
Kelly Madding (Operations Manager) and Paige West (Planning and Strategic Programs Manager), joined by RVTD board member Denise Krause, reviewed routes that serve Ashland (Route 10, Route 1X seasonal express, Route 17 Ashland Crosstown), service frequencies, and a list of the most used stops. RVTD described an all‑volunteer community bike shop (Pedal Power) operating in the Ashland Grove in partnership with Ashland Parks and Recreation and the Ashland Climate Collaborative and noted outreach programs including a Transportation Options internship with Southern Oregon University and Bike to Work Day events.
RVTD materials reviewed historic, current and projected costs and revenues and noted that "costs are outpacing revenues." Staff outlined plans to seek voter approval for a special levy that sunsets in 2026 and described a transition plan for paratransit vehicle electrification using Carbon Reduction Program funds in late 2026.
