On April 1, 2025, the Ashland City Council approved the second reading of Ordinance 3257, updating AMC 9.04 concerning weeds and noxious vegetation.
Fire Marshal Mark Shay presented the updated code language, which includes revised definitions (e.g., Fire Chief defined to include an authorized designee), clarified summer-season dates for required weed abatement and clarified notice-to-abate and lien procedures when owners fail to remove weeds that create fire, health or traffic hazards.
There was no discussion following the presentation. Councilor DuQuenne moved and Councilor Kaplan seconded the motion to approve the second reading. Roll call vote: Councilors Dahle, DuQuenne, Knauer, Kaplan and Hansen — YES. Motion passed.
The ordinance amends timing and enforcement provisions in AMC 9.04 and references administrative roles for enforcement and notifications.
