Resident raises questions about Nobilia free-trade-zone request at Garland work session

Junaid asked whether Garland would be the company's first FTZ in Texas and requested projected numbers for jobs, local sales and tax revenue. He warned that free-trade zones can be used to avoid import duties and said federal and state regulators may not have sufficient resources to police misuse. He noted that some FTZ approvals do not include sunset clauses and recommended the city thoroughly examine expected benefits before granting designation.
Council did not take action during the work session; staff had earlier listed the FTZ resolution as part of the written-briefings package.
