Vice Mayor Mai said families in his district had submitted reports and struggled to obtain follow-up from schools; he said the proposed city coordination would augment existing resources rather than replace them.
After procedural moves and a substitute motion to refer the initiative, the council voted to send the matter to the two liaison committees for IUSD and TUSD. The clerk recorded a roll call showing the referral carried 4-3; two councilmembers recorded a no vote in the transcript. The referral requires liaison engagement with school officials and other stakeholders before any city-led programmatic actions would be considered.
