At the July 8 workshop district human-resources staff presented a new job description for a School Choice Specialist. The role would replace an existing vacant Student Engagement Specialist allocation and would not require an additional headcount in the current budget, officials said.
District staff told the board the School Choice Specialist would serve as a centralized point of contact for families navigating non-traditional enrollment pathways (in-district virtual programs, hybrid options, scholarship programs, home education and private-provider arrangements). The role is intended to help families understand options, ensure accurate scholarship reporting and capture enrollment data the district may otherwise miss.
Board members welcomed the potential for improved family navigation but several asked for built-in metrics and a short pilot period to test whether the position increases net district enrollment or improves reporting that would recover otherwise-missed per-student funding. One board member suggested specific performance metrics and a two-year review to determine whether the position's budgetary return justifies its cost.
Staff said the position has been budgeted and would be placed in a professional salary lane; they also emphasized the role's record-keeping and outreach responsibilities and said it would coordinate with registrars and program staff to ensure scholarship forms are completed correctly.
Provenance: The School Choice Specialist description is introduced at 02:15:08 and the conversation about scope, return on investment and performance measures continues across the 02:15:08—09:15:51 timeframe.
