City staff explained the Federal Aviation Administration provided approximately $2,300,000 for the hangar, which staff described as a "box" or transit hangar intended to accommodate larger business jets overnight. "The FAA gave us close to $2,300,000 to build a hangar," a staff member told the council, adding the city had budgeted the local match of about $100,000 in the current budget.
Staff said the hangar will provide covered storage for aircraft that currently must be kept at larger regional airports and that construction could begin within 30 to 45 days if the award is finalized. The hangar was described as large enough to hold at least two business-class jets and expected to be available for rent.
Council approved the award by roll call; the motion and vote record were entered into the meeting minutes.
