A commissioner who visited the Lynn Haven senior center told colleagues that most center users told her they did not want a new outgoing U.S. Postal Service mailbox placed at the facility, though one attendee still wants one.
"I had three different people without me even bringing it up saying they don't need the mailbox," the commissioner said after the visit. She reported the majority view was that existing mailing arrangements were adequate and that one person had brought the request over other staff'related grievances.
Staff noted the city does not control USPS box placement and that any installation would require coordination with the Postal Service. City staff also said they researched the historical outgoing mailbox at the prior meeting location and found the last documented appearance of the box dated around 2007; the box was gone well before Hurricane Michael.
Separately, the senior center asked whether a small office or storage area used by the commission could be cleared so center officers could hold one-on-one meetings on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Staff said they had discussed options with senior-center officers and had ideas for moving computers and other items so the center could use the space on scheduled days.
No formal commission action was taken at the pre-commission meeting. Staff said they would follow up with the senior-center officers and explore feasible options for a small, shared meeting area.
