The Imperial County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution Jan. 7 to formally create an Emergency Medical Care Committee to advise the county's emergency medical services agency on ambulance services, training and system improvements.
The Imperial County Board of Supervisors voted to formally establish an Emergency Medical Care Committee (EMCC) on Jan. 7, 2025, authorizing staff to draft bylaws and return with appointment mechanisms.
Jeanette Angulo, speaking for Public Health and the local emergency medical services agency, told the board that state law gives counties authority to convene such committees and that local stakeholders previously met informally; she asked the board to adopt a resolution to formalize the committee.
Angulo said the EMCC would advise the board and the Local Emergency Medical Services Agency on ambulance services, first-aid practices, EMS training programs, and system improvement opportunities. The proposed committee would contain up to 13 voting members representing fire departments, ambulance providers, emergency departments, law enforcement, training centers and community representatives.
Supervisor Ryan Kelly moved to approve the resolution; the motion was seconded and carried. Staff said next steps include drafting bylaws, establishing reporting requirements and bringing appointment recommendations to the board.
