The vote came after more than an hour of public testimony and a prolonged board discussion about the county’s limited authority in federal fee‑to‑trust decisions. Residents of North Buckeye Ranch and nearby neighborhoods said the environmental assessment and potential trust conversion could increase traffic, strain private road maintenance, pressure groundwater and sewer resources, and permit land uses they said are incompatible with the existing residential character. Multiple speakers urged the board to tell the BIA it should support only the “no action” alternative (alternative C) in the environmental assessment.
