Bluff council signs letter of support for UDOT grant, confirms county-run elections process and approves bills

At its Feb. 4 meeting the Bluff Town Council unanimously approved several administrative items: a letter of support for a Utah Department of Transportation grant application, confirmation that San Juan County will run the 2025 municipal election, and payment of presented bills.

Letter of Support: The active transportation group requested letters from towns and counties to support a federal grant for emergency flood and road repairs on state routes that have washed out. Councilor Lou Ann Cook moved to approve the letter with changes to reference local routes; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously. Staff said they would circulate a draft on town letterhead and obtain the mayor’s signature before the grant deadline late in February.

Elections: Council members confirmed they will contract with San Juan County to administer the 2025 municipal election rather than purchase equipment. The council heard that Vint deGraw is now in the county election office and that candidate filing will be open for a five‑day window from June 2 through June 6, 2025. Seats up this cycle were identified as two council seats (Lou Ann Cook and Linda Sosa) and the mayor’s seat.

Finance and bills: Staff presented January financials and reported an $18,000 EPA drawdown that had been allocated to the special project fund. After review, a motion to pay the listed bills was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.

No councilors dissented on these items. Staff will complete the letter of support language and post required election contract paperwork.
