Council directs ordinance and procedure changes after repeated demolition permit overruns

The administration convened joint meetings of the planning board engineer, zoning, building officials, and council liaison to define changes to process and draft ordinance language. Recommended administrative steps include:
- Placing clearer demolition limits and the permitted demolition percentage on demolition permits and zoning permits so the permit file shows the allowed scope. - Requiring applicants to stop work and return to the board if demolition exceeds the approved threshold. - Improving internal communication among the UCC (Uniform Construction Code official), township engineer, planning and zoning staff, and building inspectors to document permitted scope and inspections.
Officials said they will prepare draft ordinance language to clarify the municipal definition of demolition and the triggers for board review and permit escalation. The council asked for a follow-up meeting to review the language before any final changes are introduced.
