District summarizes summer maintenance, preschool capacity and announces NJSLA adaptive field test

Superintendent and buildings & grounds staff reviewed summer maintenance and capital work across schools, reported preschool seat availability and protocols for 29 preschool classrooms, and announced the state shift to the NJSLA adaptive assessment with a fall field test window.
Administrators and buildings & grounds staff presented a summary of summer projects completed across the district and offered operational updates in advance of the 2025–26 school year.
The summer work highlighted by district staff included floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction, power washing, installation of a motorized door latch for the administrative building front entrance, pruning and thinning of trees, parking lot repaving and new or replaced parking signs. Annual inspections and preventive maintenance were completed for fire alarms, sprinklers, boilers, flagpole generator, kitchen suppression systems, well water sampling and indoor air quality testing. Several specific school projects were noted: new playground equipment at Crescent; boiler and backflow preventer replacements and a rebuilt walk‑in freezer condenser at Osage; HVAC replacements in multiple rooms at Voorhees Middle School (10 units in D Wing funded by a grant) and renovations to front office and conference areas; and a donated 20x20 shade structure at Signal Hill.
Superintendent Dr. Hackett said preschool capacity is nearly full with 17 seats remaining districtwide and that a new complex near ET Hamilton will lease soon; the district has created a preschool protocols document for 29 classrooms and is preparing for a mandated ACCESS/NJSLA adaptive field test window (Oct. 27–Nov. 14) this fall. The 2024–25 annual report will be posted on the district website under Reports as of tomorrow.
Why it matters: The district’s facility and safety work supports operations for the whole school community, while the preschool seat information and assessment changes affect parents and classroom scheduling going into the school year. The administration said they will continue to provide details to families as needed.
