Council adopts updated redevelopment plans for Cocoa CRA and Diamond Square CRA

The Cocoa City Council on July 15 adopted two ordinances updating redevelopment plans for the Cocoa Community Redevelopment Area and the Diamond Square Community Redevelopment Agency.
City attorney Anthony Garganese read both ordinances by title and reported there were no substantive changes since first reading. Planning staff said all affected taxing authorities were notified and that both proposed plan updates had been recommended by the relevant CRA bodies.
Council members asked clarifying questions about the inclusion of language allowing historic and cultural uses in the redevelopment plans; staff confirmed the plan language references cultural and historical significance in a general way intended to allow appropriate projects and protections.
Council voted unanimously to adopt both ordinances on second and final reading.
Planning staff said the CRA boards and staff will now coordinate implementation steps, including outreach with stakeholders in the Diamond Square area. Members of the CRA and local neighborhood groups attended the meeting for the vote.
