The House Executive Departments and Administration Committee voted 16-0 on Nov. 5 to adopt Amendment 2025-2952h to House Bill 244, a broad recodification of statutes governing municipal enforcement of the building and fire code.
Chair Erica Layon opened the executive session and moved adoption of the amendment, describing the work as a complex task to consolidate and relocate statutory provisions so they appear in a single chapter. Representative Grotta seconded the motion. After a roll call, the committee recorded a unanimous vote to adopt the amendment and later voted 16-0 “ought to pass as amended.” The committee placed the bill on the consent calendar and directed the committee staff to prepare the committee report the same day.
Committee members thanked the subcommittee and staff for their work on the rewrite. There was no extended floor debate recorded in the executive session; Chair Layon said the bill was ready to move forward after thorough review. The committee closed its executive session on HB 244 after the votes and moved to the next retained bill.
