Gurnee board removes long-standing no-parking restriction on Hickory Haven Drive

The Gurnee Village Board on Nov. 3 adopted Ordinance 2025-76 to remove a roughly 20-year no-parking prohibition on both sides of Hickory Haven Drive, retaining overnight and snow/ice parking restrictions. The Gurnee Village Board on Nov. 3 adopted Ordinance 2025-76 to remove a no-parking prohibition on both sides of Hickory Haven Drive while keeping the villagewide overnight restriction (2 a.m.–6 a.m.) and no-parking during snow and ice operations.
Mayor Thomas Hood told the board he had received a memo from Community Development Director David Ziegler explaining the request. Longtime residents said the restriction was installed about 20 years ago to limit nonresident parking related to Lake Carina; after parking was added at Lake Carina in 2008, nonresident parking on Hickory Haven ceased to be an issue, the memo said. Neighbors circulated a petition; 20 of the roughly 28–29 homes signed in support of removing the restriction.
Trustee O'Brien moved to adopt the ordinance; Trustee Thorsonson seconded. The board approved the ordinance by roll call vote: Thorsonson, Woodside, Ross, Garner and O'Brien all voted yes.
The ordinance removes the daytime parking prohibition on Hickory Haven Drive but leaves in place the 2 a.m.–6 a.m. overnight ban and the village’s snow-and-ice parking restriction. The village clerk recorded the motion and vote in the meeting minutes.
