Board hears options for 20202020Glispy property; appraisal and teardown costs discussed

The Westwood Heights Schools Board received an update on a district-owned parcel described in board discussion as the "Glispy" property and discussed options for disposition.

Board member Mr. Fikes reported the site appraisal came back at roughly $205,023 for about 10 acres. He said estimated costs to tear down the existing improvements approached $500,000, including about $300,000 to remove investments already in the building. Mr. Fikes said a private party had offered to acquire the property for little or nothing, and that the board had asked staff to gather cost/benefit scenarios and to arrange a meeting with both the potential buyer and a local church that had also expressed interest.

Mr. Fikes told the board that the parcel could not remain as-is for insurance reasons: insurers reportedly would not continue coverage on the structure. The board discussed the need to determine whether to sell, give, or demolish the property and to finalize an appraisal-based offer before moving forward.
