Cecilia Moreno identified herself as a taxpayer and district resident and said Acting Superintendent Watson had been appointed without being vetted by teachers, administrators or parents. Moreno asked whether the district has the funds to continue paying Watson and the named staff and whether the district could sustain potential payouts if terminations or legal costs result. She alleged that certain employees were placed on leave without due process and called for the resignation of two board members over conduct at Maryville High School. The speaker's remarks prompted a brief response from the board and administration noting that the board has presented budget numbers and procedural information in prior meetings.
Ramon Lopez, an eighth‑grade teacher at Charles W. Harris, spoke with student council members to invite the governing board and community to a Ruby Bridges walk at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 13 to mark the 65th anniversary of Ruby Bridges' federal‑marshal‑escorted integration of schools. Board members expressed appreciation and said they planned to attend.
