Grady County emergency-management director details interagency planning; firefighters press for Fire Board attendance rules

Bill Flores, Safety Director and reporting for Grady County Emergency Management (GCEMA), told the board the county has been coordinating with Health Department District 6 and the Oklahoma Medical Response Corp on emergency planning, including hospital power contingencies and patient-transport arrangements.

Flores said he has been reaching out to the Health Department District 6 emergency-response coordinator about powering the hospital and ensuring transportation for patients, and that he has contacted the Oklahoma Medical Response Corp about stored supplies and volunteer responders countywide. He said the county is working with the Chickasha Chamber of Commerce to identify additional resources.
Kim Duke reported that volunteer firefighter applications were distributed at the county fair and said volunteer firefighters would like to see by-law language holding Fire Board members to attendance standards similar to those expected of volunteer firefighters. Carrie Anderson, speaking for volunteer firefighters, asked that the Fire Board be able to remove members who fail to attend required meetings. The minutes record there was no quorum for a recent Fire Board meeting; Duke told the commissioners she would provide a current attendance list so the board can review membership and absences.
Commissioner Zachary Davis asked what the implications were for the Fire Board not meeting. Kim Duke responded the Fire Board is required to post meetings under Title 19 but the statute does not specify penalties for failing to meet; she said she believes failing to meet could pose a risk. County A.D.A. Charles Sifers advised commissioners they need an up-to-date list of board members. Commissioner Gary Bray asked staff to bring a list of Fire Board members and their attendance records to the next Commissioner meeting.
Bobby Cantu was identified in the minutes as the person who will conduct monthly inspections in the county and said he will attend training on Sept. 8 and update the x‑ray machine permit.
