Norwood public works reports paving, water and bridge work as fall projects continue

Mark Ryan, director of public works and town engineer, told the board Sept. 9 that the town's paving program and a suite of utility and drainage projects are progressing and identified timelines for fall and next‑season work.
Ryan said contractor Pawtucket Paving has completed paving on 22 of 32 streets and that work on five additional streets was underway. He reported completion of a reconstruction at the Savage Center parking lot (paving, striping, lighting and seating) and work on pickleball and basketball courts; painting and striping remained scheduled. The MassDOT‑led Upland/Prospect (Route 1A) project continues, including a large retaining wall, widened pavement and replacement of twin 24‑inch drains; the town reported no cost for those drain replacements. Traffic signal mast‑arm foundations on Washington/Manhattan streets are largely installed with mast arms expected in October.
Ryan also described sewer and water work: a cleaning and lining program with neighborhood sequencing, replacement of water services, and progress toward a replacement water tank (site foundation demolition planned in October). Meadowbrook channel and Westover Parkway culvert work were reported as moving toward mid‑October completion. Ryan noted cemetery maintenance totals (144 burials year‑to‑date), Old Parish Cemetery entrance bids and ongoing coordination with MassDOT and other contractors. He said the infiltration/inflow study for sewer I/I is near 100% design, with bidding to follow, and that an EPA requirement to inventory water service materials is underway.
