Rancho Cordova celebrates second annual Spring Service Day; 347 volunteers contributed 1,795 hours

Laurieann Carl, program lead in the city manager's office, reported to the council that the second annual Spring Service Day on May 17 mobilized 347 volunteers who completed 21 projects and logged 1,795 hours of service across Rancho Cordova.
Carl said the event highlighted local nonprofits and youth engagement and leveraged the Volunteer Central platform, which now lists 32 organizations and 1,350 volunteers. Title sponsors described corporate support: Anne Discalzo of The RAS Group said the company will embed the date in its quarterly volunteer calendar; Terrence McNamara of Atlas Disposal described logistic and material support.
Volunteers and neighborhood leaders described art projects, park cleanups, home repairs, painting crosswalks and family-oriented activities. Janine Anderson of Lincoln Village spoke about neighborhood pride and turnout from nearby cities.
City staff thanked participating departments, including facilities, public works and neighborhood services. A short video shown to the council highlighted volunteers painting, building, and cleaning public spaces.
The council recognized the event as a community-building effort and discussed expanding volunteer engagement in future years.
