The Ellensburg City Council adopted Resolution 2025‑11 on July 7 to amend the fiscal‑year 2025 pay plan for nonrepresented employees.
What changed: Human Resources Director Lisa Young explained the adjustments are intended to improve recruitment and retention for the assistant city attorney position, which is vacant. The assistant city attorney pay grade was adjusted and a second tier created to account for a broader range of candidate experience. Staff also realigned the service desk specialist position in Information Technology to better match the executive assistant classification, an edit missed in the prior biannual budget.
Budget impact: Staff reported the FY2025 budgetary impact for the remainder of 2025 is approximately $8,148, contingent on filling the assistant city attorney position. The city also noted it is concurrently exploring contracted prosecution services with the county prosecutor’s office as an alternative to hiring in‑house.
Vote: Council moved and seconded adoption of Resolution 2025‑11, which passed by voice vote. Staff said additional expenditure authority for affected funds will be requested in the next supplemental biennial budget as needed.
