Sheriff's Office reports lower patrol call volume, crash totals on track; jail population steady

At the Public Safety Committee meeting, the Sheriff's Office reported a decrease in patrol call volume to 684 calls for the month and noted a three‑month trend averaging roughly 680 calls. The office reported 28 traffic citations, 20 written warnings, eight non‑traffic citations, and 16 total crashes during the reporting period, two of which involved personal injury. Year to date, the office said total crashes stand at 134, with 25 personal-injury crashes and one fatality to date.
The sheriff's representative thanked the Wisconsin National Guard for assistance reworking terrain and layout at the City of Hayward shooting range, which the office and partner agencies use for annual qualifications. The office also reported that the final of three new patrol squads has been delivered to GenCon for vehicle upfitting and expected assignment later this summer.
The jail report showed an average daily population of 61 for June, a year‑to‑date average of 57 and a reported daily population of 59 on the report day. Four individuals were on electronic monitoring at the time of the report. Committee members did not take formal action on these operational reports at the meeting.
Committee members asked no substantive follow-up questions during the reports; the chair thanked staff and moved on to the next agenda item.
