Uinta County approves warrants, tax adjustments and county contracts including asphalt supply and cemetery work

Uinta County commissioners on May 20 approved routine financial items and multiple procurement and grant renewals, including a road-supply contract and cemetery landscaping work.
Clerk/Auditor Mike Wilkins presented warrants dated May 15 totaling $443,847.45 and called out two larger items: a $20,009.97 contribution to U Bag Homeless and $31,000 paid for county-fair entertainment. Commissioners approved the warrants.
Wilkins also presented state tax commission orders. The commission approved adding $877.02 in assessed taxes to a disposal pond owned by RN Industries for tax year 2024, as presented by staff. Separately, the commission approved an abatement for Dalbo Inc., reducing taxes by $7,454.73 (county staff said the company had paid the amount due and the abatement corrects the record).
Purchasing recommended awarding a sealed solicitation for up to 8,000 tons of native asphalt oil sands to Valcor at $29.95 per ton; the commission approved awarding the proposal and authorized staff to finalize a contract. The road department said the single responsive proposal met mandatory RFP requirements.
The commission approved a contract with Allred Landscaping for the Rock Point Cemetery expansion, not to exceed $99,716, following a competitive solicitation process in March. Staff said one other bidder failed to meet mandatory minimum requirements.
County staff also presented a renewal grant application to the Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice for $450,000 to continue funding pretrial services, drug court, drug testing and probation personnel and operations for July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026. Commissioners approved proceeding with the renewal application.
Separately, the commission approved appointments to an 11-member advisory board tied to a rural county grant program and local economic development, including one new appointment (Alan Olive) and multiple reappointments with terms running through 2026 or 2028 depending on the seat.
All actions on these items were approved by motion at the May 20 meeting.
