Summary
A College Park resident told the Chino council Feb. 18 that a rumored proposal to add pickleball courts at Constellation Park would harm neighborhood character, parking and safety. Bridgette Bjerke, a resident who lives near Constellation Park, told the Chino City Council on Feb. 18 she and her neighbors oppose a rumored plan to build a pickleball court at the neighborhood park.
Bjerke said Constellation Park is primarily used by local residents for walking, jogging and informal children’s play and that installing a fenced pickleball court would be “aesthetically unpleasing,” reduce green space and worsen parking and safety concerns on nearby streets. She noted the park’s maintenance, including landscaping and utilities, is paid through the neighborhood homeowners association (HOA) and asked the council to consider alternative sites such as Olympic Park.
Mayor Unisim Ulloa responded that he had not heard of an official proposal for Constellation Park and that, if staff had been asked, they would have informed the council. Councilmembers reinforced the suggestion to look at other city parks for new courts and encouraged the resident to raise concerns if a formal proposal is filed.
