EDC members report strong regional demand for equestrian facility; contractor provides preliminary cost and scale estimates

EDC staff on Jan. 21 updated the board on preliminary outreach regarding a potential equestrian center. Staff said they contacted regional operators and a contractor experienced in metal building construction who supplied drawings, layout ideas and rough pricing guidance.
The contractor suggested that an economically viable facility might include multiple buildings — separate boarding and barn facilities, a clubhouse area and 40–50 stalls — rather than a smaller 20-stall private build. Staff relayed a rough project cost estimate in the low millions (a presentation figure cited ‘3 to 3.5 million’ excluding land) and said market respondents estimated stall rents in the $600 to $1,200 range depending on services.
Staff described strong regional demand with wait lists at existing facilities and said a larger facility that can host events and shows would support more reliable revenue than a facility built only for day-to-day boarding. The board discussed possible public–private partnership arrangements and agreed to schedule a workshop to continue feasibility and next steps.
