Lincoln County holds first reading of proposed noise ordinance; second reading set for January

County Attorney Benjamin Jackson read definitions and provisions from a proposed county noise ordinance, identified in the draft as section 50-101, and the board agreed to treat the presentation as the ordinance's first reading. Jackson proposed posting the draft on the county website so commissioners and the public could review it before a second reading in January, at which point the board would consider final adoption.
Under the proposed language read at the meeting, the ordinance defines "unreasonable disturbance and excessive noise" with reference to what a person of normal hearing inside a residence can hear and identify as to nature and source. Jackson also identified the "authorized officer" to enforce the ordinance as the Lincoln County sheriff, deputies or a county code enforcement officer.
Commissioners did not amend the ordinance at the meeting and returned the item for a January second reading and possible final adoption.
