EDC staff on Jan. 21 presented a feasibility study for the city’s water system that would add six potable wells over 2025–2026 and build a roughly 1.5 million–gallon storage tank, increasing total storage capacity to about 6.5 million gallons. The staff presentation said those elements, combined with existing supply, could provide 10 million to 12 million gallons per day depending on the production of the new wells.
The presentation, which staff attributed to a study by Brenton Grantham and Associates, said one of the new tanks would sit on city-owned land near Linda Lawnd Elementary and that a treatment building with equipment would be sited at one of the new well locations. Staff cautioned the daily production number depends on actual well yields and said the team expects a clearer picture after at least one well is brought online.
At the meeting EDC staff noted the project schedule targets construction of the wells and tank in 2025 and 2026. Board members asked whether the new storage would be supported by the existing water tower or sited near the basin; staff clarified the tank and a separate treatment building would be part of the plan and that irrigation needs and equipment space were included in the study scope.
Staff did not present a final cost estimate at the meeting and described production and storage figures as contingent on the study’s next-phase findings. The item remained an informational update; no formal EDC vote on the water plan occurred at the Jan. 21 session.
