Commission reviews routine contract extensions, holiday observance and employee recognition plans

The commission took up several routine items across the consent agenda. Commissioners acknowledged an amendment to Sharpcut Lawn Service to continue landscape and irrigation maintenance at Elton Dean Park and maintenance at the sheriff's firearms training center through Jan. 6, 2027; amendments to Armstrong Relocation and Move and Store LLC (doing business as Admiral Movers) to extend moving and storage services to Jan. 1, 2027; and other similar contract extensions.
On holidays, the commission considered a resolution authorizing county observance of the Thanksgiving holiday on Friday, Nov. 28, 2025, aligning county practice with the governor's declaration. One commissioner noted a personal preference to work that day, but staff said they would not stop anybody from working if the governor declared the holiday.
Staff also briefed the commission on plans to revamp the employee recognition program after the county terminated its contract with the previous vendor, Chappie's. Staff said they are planning outreach and logistical changes and expect to roll out a proposed update in the coming weeks; the awards day is scheduled to begin feeding at 11 a.m. with the program starting at about 11:30 a.m.
