Malvern officer outlines traffic unit duties, warns against illegal windshield tinting

Officer Paul Shetty of the Malvern Police Department said the traffic unit handles motor vehicle collisions, traffic hazards and other traffic complaints and that the unit's goal is educating the public and providing safe roadways. "That's really our goal," he said.
Shetty said motorcycle patrol helps officers connect with people. "When I'm out riding around on my motorcycle, it seems to break down the doors and the windows to the public. And people are much more open to talk to me," he said, adding that he helps motorists through the aftermath of crashes, from arranging repairs to getting medical help when people are injured.
Shetty told the meeting that he has a few "pet peeves," and warned that fully tinted front windshields are not permitted. "It is illegal for a vehicle to have a fully tinted front windshield. It can only have the top 6 inches of the windshield tinted, and the rest of it has to be perfectly clear. It cannot have tint on it," he said.
Shetty closed by saying he lives in the community and enjoys keeping it safe. He noted that even people who receive citations often thank him for his approach to enforcement. No formal action or vote was taken during this presentation.
