Council approves consent item after discussion showing most traffic stops involved nonresidents

Mayor Pro Tem Marcus Ray asked the police chief to explain the disposition of stops and citations after noting an increase in total stops year over year. The chief said, "For 2024, 77.17% of the stops were for nonresidents, and 22.82% of the stops were for residents, which closely tracks mirrors our arrest statistics also, which are about 78% of our arrests are nonresidents and 22 are residents." The chief also noted previous figures for citations and arrests during the discussion.
Council action: Mayor Pro Tem Marcus Ray moved to approve item 6; Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Bartley seconded the motion. The council voted unanimously to approve the pulled item.
