Resident raises concerns about college materials and an alleged traffic incident during public comment
Loading...
Summary
Bruce Luna urged the board to investigate materials at a local college event he described as ‘anti‑DEI,’ requested a copy of the presenter’s PowerPoint, and raised a police-report allegation involving a district-associated individual; he asked the board to review the matters in light of a recent state law (Senate Bill 1437).
At the meeting’s public‑comment period, resident Bruce Luna identified himself and raised two matters for the board’s attention.
Luna said he attended a workshop at a local college and that the event materials included language he described as "anti-DEI," referencing a slide that, in his words, said “the anti DEI forces are grounded in racism, the protection of white privilege, and increasingly toxic masculinity.” Luna told the board he provided them a handout and a flyer for the professor who presented and said he had requested the full PowerPoint from the college but had not received it after approximately 77 days.
Luna also said he had obtained a copy of a police report that he described as alleging a district‑affiliated driver was operating a rental car at more than 100 mph. He said he had asked the county sheriff’s office to investigate and asked the board to examine the matter in light of Senate Bill 1437, which he provided copies of.
Board members did not take immediate action on those requests during the public comment period. Luna said he appreciated the district’s student-health outreach (noting school physicals provided to students who could not otherwise afford them) and closed his remarks by asking the board to look into the matters he raised.
