The New Iberia City Council on Sept. 2 opened a public hearing and then voted to adopt Ordinance 2025-23, authorizing the mayor to negotiate and execute an agreement between the City of New Iberia and New Iberia Health Services Incorporated related to patrol and law-enforcement duties by the New Iberia Police Department.
The ordinance is described in the meeting packet as the city's contract with the hospital. The public hearing produced no public comments. Councilwoman Brooke Marcotte moved the main motion to adopt the ordinance and Councilman Ron Davis seconded; council voted to approve the ordinance and authorized the mayor to execute the agreement.
The ordinance was placed on the agenda as item 4(a) and proceeded through the required public-hearing steps at the Sept. 2 meeting.
