Main Norrell branch approved for passport service; security and pest-control vendors change

The main branch of the Norell Public Library has been approved to provide passport services, and operational vendors for security and pest control changed, the board heard July 10.
Sherrell Harris told the board the library received approval for passport services on July 1; one staff member needs to update a certificate before the service can begin. Harris said she expects passport services and the new furniture to be in place by September.
Harris also said the city and library have switched to a new security guard company covering City Hall, the North Health Department and library sites; the main library was able to retain its current guard but staff will need time to acclimate to the new company. On pest control, staff recommended Cat's Eye Pest Control after a site visit and mapping of the buildings; the vendor plan includes supervised tech visits and training. Harris said a mosquito-control contractor (Mosquito Squad) has achieved a “tremendous difference” in mosquito levels that had previously reached upper floors.
Harris described interior tidying and reorganization — including clearing boxes at the north entrance and reorganizing the book-sale area — intended to open circulation space. No formal actions or contract approvals were taken at the meeting; Harris said staff will sign contracts with the new vendors as appropriate.
