TOPEKA — County officials provided several administrative updates Jan. 23: Stormont Vail Event Center announced the return of professional hockey with puck drop at 7:30 p.m. on the opening night and weekend dates; public skate sessions and post-game skates will be available. County tickets start at $16 at the box office to avoid online fees; public skate is $7 to skate and $3 to rent skates.
Kellen, representing the Stormont Vail Event Center, said group ticket discounts are available for county departments and large employers and that the facility expects roughly 2,000 attendees for the weekends referenced. Shawn Zier, Shawnee County Parks and Recreation, said there will be a meet-and-greet with players at Garfield Community Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., a trout stocking at Lake Shawnee at 1 p.m. at the main boat ramp, and that seasonal and part-time positions are now open online (lifeguard applicants need not be pre-certified; in-house certification is provided).
