The package described by Hayes includes sidewalk gap infill adjacent to existing properties, ADA ramps, 20‑mph school zones with flashing beacons, new illumination and two rectangular rapid flashing beacons at identified crossings. Hayes said average daily traffic (ADT) at several nearby locations is close to or above 10,000 vehicles per day and that observed speeds are higher than posted limits; staff emphasized the safety rationale for the improvements.
Hayes showed the project area map and said the improvements will connect to new development around the school site. The presentation noted a construction schedule in a slide that appears to contain an unclear date; staff also said the project was planned for a construction window after current permitting and review processes.
No formal board vote was recorded in the briefing. Staff said they are scoping future applications for Safe Routes projects in other neighborhoods, including possible future applications near Arlington Elementary where the city and county jurisdictions meet.
