Judge Bob Cherry administered the oath of office to Mary Anne Waldrum, Keimer Clark and Keith Moore at the start of the Dec. 2 meeting. Each repeated the standard oath to "support and maintain the constitution and laws of the United States and of North Carolina" and to "faithfully discharge the duties as a Carteret County Commissioner."
After a brief recess, county attorney Sharon Griffin opened nominations for the board's leadership. A nomination was made for Commissioner Chadwick to serve as chairman; nominations were closed and the board approved Chadwick as chair by raised hands. Chadwick thanked his colleagues and called for nominations for vice chairman; Commissioner Waldrop was nominated and approved.
Chairman Chadwick then presided over the meeting. In remarks after the election, Chadwick said he appreciated the trust of his fellow commissioners and called on the board to proceed with its business.
The swearing-in and leadership votes were procedural and decided by majority voice/hand votes; the meeting record does not include a roll-call tally for the leadership elections.
