The New Castle County Administrative Finance Committee approved a series of community grants during its Jan. 14, 2025 meeting.
Chair John Cartier moved to award Tomorrow’s Change $25,100 to help the Claymont nonprofit cover overhead as it stabilizes operations and continues to offer reduced‑fee psychological services. “I’m gonna make a motion for $25,100 for Tomorrow’s Change as a grant,” Cartier said; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Councilman Carter moved $500 to support the Town of Townsend’s annual town fair; the committee approved the motion by voice vote. Carter said about two‑thirds of attendees come from unincorporated New Castle County and framed the grant as supporting a rural community event.
Carter also moved $1,000 to assist the MOT Charter School’s robotics program after students requested help so more pupils could participate in the STEM activity; that motion passed.
Councilwoman Durham moved $25,100 to support the National Vernacular Architecture Forum, a national conference with events in Delaware including an opening reception at Rockwood Museum. Durham and other members said they would split sponsorship contributions and the committee approved the grant by voice vote.
Councilman Toole introduced a request for up to $5,000 to Faithful Friends Animal Society; he said the organization serves “over 18,000 pets per year and 24,000 people of the county” and that he was supporting the request with $1,000. During the meeting multiple council members verbally pledged amounts so the total met the requested up to $5,000; the committee approved the up‑to‑$5,000 motion.
All grant motions in the matrix were carried by voice vote with no public comment recorded on the items during the committee meeting.
