Administration said one of two high school hot water heaters failed several weeks earlier and that getting contractors to quote the job had proved difficult; two bids were ultimately received. Modus, the district's mechanical adviser, reviewed both proposals and recommended the lower of the two bidders as acceptable.
Trustees noted Waldinger's local ties and that the recommended solution includes multiple water heaters rather than a single large unit, which board members said provides redundancy if a unit fails in the future. The board approved the award by motion and voice vote.
Why it matters: Hot water heating is necessary for building operations and food service; replacing a failed system is a near-term capital expense. Administration had earlier pulled the vendor agreement for hot water work from the consent agenda for separate consideration.
