Board renews MOU with 100 Black Men of Coastal North Carolina for mentoring partnerships

Board members considered a renewal of a memorandum of understanding with 100 Black Men of Coastal North Carolina. The MOU describes the organization’s mentoring work with district students and has been a multi-year partnership, per board discussion.

Some board members sought clearer detail in the MOU about what the organization would provide at individual schools and how the work would be coordinated with principals and site staff. Staff and board members noted the schools will guide partnership activities and that the MOU is intended to enable mentorship, not to substitute for school-directed programs. After discussion the board approved the MOU renewal by a 5–1 vote.

Board members asked staff to ensure future MOU agenda items clarify whether an item is a renewal and to include more specific program details in future agenda materials.
